Editorial Guidelines

Where the line sits between explaining a mechanism and giving advice matters more on a tax topic than almost anywhere else on this network of sites, so it is worth making the editorial process visible.

Evidence classes

  1. Primary guidance. Taxable-event definitions, capital-gains mechanics and reporting requirements are tied to authoritative U.S. material and cited inline where the claim benefits from it.
  2. Mechanical explanation. The withdrawal walkthrough explains what a reader does operationally without turning a provider-specific interface into a universal rule.
  3. Example. Calculations and scenarios show a method. They do not state what a particular reader owes.
  4. Editorial boundary. When a rule is time-specific, jurisdiction-specific or dependent on transaction history, the text says so instead of flattening the uncertainty.

What “checked” means

A useful check asks whether the claim is supported by the cited source, whether the wording matches the source’s scope, and whether the passage could be misread as personal advice. Rates, thresholds, forms and phase-in dates receive a date-sensitive qualification. Withdrawal steps are described as a general workflow, because exchanges and banks change their screens and requirements.

What this site will never do

  • Calculate, estimate or state what a specific reader actually owes.
  • Recommend a specific exchange, wallet or tax-software provider.
  • Present a 2025–2027 phase-in rule, such as a cost-basis reporting timeline, as permanent.
  • Use a disclaimer to hide a missing source or an unsupported certainty.

Corrections and updates

A material correction should identify the affected passage, source or calculation and refresh the page’s modified date. An update should preserve the distinction between the original observation and the newer rule. Quietly changing an example so that it looks like a historical fact is not an acceptable correction.

Scope of responsibility

The article explains a general mechanism. A qualified tax professional handles the reader’s specific number, filing position and jurisdiction. No page on this site is a substitute for professional advice or current instructions from the relevant authority.
